The archaeological area of the city 'Paestum, whose urban fabric, orthogonally arranged around two main axes, wound through blocks long and narrow, occupying two decks overlooking the sea, and' basically formed by a fence around the perimeter of 5 miles, a rectangular plan, with a beveled corner, from 4 major temples (including 3 Doric), an amphitheater, the so-called Via Sacra and other remains sporadic.

In addition to the walls and the hole, the excavations carried out in the course of the 900 brought to light an urban sanctuary, some residential areas and spas.
At the heart of the city 'are located on the most' important areas of public and religious, which extend over a very wide area, presenting at the center agora ', with two buildings - a building for political assemblies and a heroon - to the north the sanctuary of Athena and south to Hera, in whose precinct are the so-called Basilica and the Temple of Neptune.
Of great interest, finally, the suburban sanctuaries, including the, well known, at the mouth of the Sele, and the necropolis of the surrounding territory, from which rich grave goods and the famous marble slabs of the so-called Tomb of the Diver. All finds are kept in the local National Archaeological Museum.
